Giving Help, Finding Hope
"Last year, I watched a close friend of mine battle lymphoma, a truly terrible disease. As he fought for his health, and his life, I was struck by how little information exchange took place within the current medical system. His doctor visits were abrupt and focused on the disease, not his emotional or mental needs.
As time progressed, I could see he felt increasingly lost - not knowing what was going on, struggling to find others who knew, firsthand, what he was experiencing. Looking back, I think if he'd had someone else in his life that understood - just one other person who'd "been there," too - it would have made all the difference. When my friend eventually lost his battle, he was depressed, alone, afraid and without hope.
So, in his memory, I launched Hopecube, an online community for swapping information, giving advice, finding doctors and just basically relating to others who share your experience. Giving today's patients and medical professionals what my friend couldn't have: connection.
I hope this community becomes a place of comfort for you - and a way to reach out with support and understanding - as, together, we face the struggles ahead."
