Is anybody out there with fibromyalgia, living with the pain and no one understanding it?

My husband thinks that fibromyalgia is just a pain that comes and goes like a backache. i have tried to describe it to him but he understands and listens a whole lot more about football. I need to find some one who can relate to what i have. Sometimes i feel like i am crazy. Ha!

Sounds pretty familiar, to me. I don't have a fibro diagnosis, but I do have myofascial pain syndrome and undiagnosed pain. My husband tries to get it, but just doesn't, and keeps asking if I'm sure my pain isn't just stress-related or attributable to some other emotional thing. Sometimes I wish I could make him feel it just for a minute or two, so he'd finally understand. Hang in there! You're not crazy; promise. :)
My hubby doesn't understand it and doesn't really try to understand it. He will ask me how I'm feeling then when I try to tell him, he changes the subject back to himself and how he feels.
He has had bypass surgery, he has a scar to prove what he has been trhough, I have nothing visible. He has daily aches and pains too and he always hurts as bad as me, if not worse.
I have finally quit answering him when he ask, I tell him I'm fine and then listen to him complain. Then he aggravated with me when I won't tell him what is going on with him, seems like either way I can't win.
You might try getting your hubby to try the clothespin challenge from the National Fibromyalgia Association. I'm just biding my time, so when the right moment comes up, I'm goining to have hubby do it.
I would love to find a fibro support group close. I thik being able to talk with others with fibro would be very helpful.
Best of luck to you.
I have had Fibromyalgia since the mid 1980's and divorce followed because he couldn't understand why I "always hurt", of course his knocking me around didn't help either. I am now no longer able to work, since last April and am living on SS disability. It's a vicious cycle, pain, depression, pain, depression and it never ends. But you aren't going crazy, it's real, people just don't understand and they still don't have any real treatment for it and that's what makes it even worse. If you want to talk, feel free to contact me. I will get back to you. And hang in there!!
sounds like my life! (except i got rid of the husbands). i also have bipolar disorder on top of the fibro so some days i REALLY feel crazy. i've been diagnosed w/ fibro for 7 yrs. before that I thought i was crazy & others thought i was faking it or a drug addict. i've heard it all, feel free to contact me, i'd love to be there for someone else like me. blessed be
