Rages?
asked by honeejr on 1 September 2007 18:23
I have what is a rage at times when I'm angry. It doesn't happen often. So far 2x in my life. This time it has landed me in trouble. My doctor has checked my hormones and said it was not the problem. Any ideas?

If it has only happened twice in your life, it probably isn't a big problem. I'm a 17 yr old guy, so I feel rage pretty often. My dad taught me techniques like "Count to 10 when you feel rage", "Think about 1 person you love when you feel rage", "Concentrate on your breathing when you feel rage", etc. I use these techniques from time to time and they do help.
Let us know some more about how you feel during your rage episode. I can ask my dad what will work best for you.
I myself had to learn to let things go. For example: If somebody was rude to me. Normally I'd get pretty mad but might not say anything to them. Now I just say they were rude and instantly drop it with absolutely no anger on my part at all. However they seem to get mad because my response wasn't what they wanted.
Early communication is always the key to certain situations that may lead to conflict. Explain how you feel and explain that you are not angry about it, you just want to discuss it. That's was my problem plus I was angry about things that happened so far in the past that it sounds ridiculous to me now. Once I let go of all of that I was shocked at how easy it was. I'm not leading a happier life.
If I tell myself I'm going to be happy instead of angry if something happens, it does happen and I'm happy because I already told myself I would be. It's not a cure all its a tool to use against the anger trigger which many of us seem to have developed as a sort of protection for ourselves.
I know you talked about rage, I am talking about totally nullifying anger before it becomes rage.

It happens to me a lot lately. I still manage to smehow control myself but each time it goes worse and I afraid I will not be able to stay in control one day. I really wish I had a real answer to this...
