Issues Mikesmom is Interested In
- Diabetes - Type 2 - How does this condition affect you? It has cause me to have numbness in my feet on up to my knees and in my finger tips. I have to constantly monitor my blood sugar levels and be very careful about what I eat. I have to take insulin shots morning and evening and some time during the day. I am depressed and feel as though my body has trapped me in this restrictive life style because of too many years of smoking, drinking, drugs, late nights, gambling and now overeating. I have compulsive behavior.
- Osteoarthritis - How does this condition affect you? I have lived with pain in my knees for more years than I can remember. I get injections every 6 months to ease the pain. I recently had my right knee operated on to repair some damage, but I still have pain.
- Asthma - How does this condition affect you? I can deal with it. I quit smoking several years before the asthma showed up. It does cause me to get bronchitis every year in the winter.
- Pancreatitis - How does this condition affect you? It makes me very sick and this last time I could have died, which is very scary. This illness causes an extreme amount of pain and I am not allowed to eat so the pancreas can rest. It is very difficult for me to accept the possibility of this illness killing me because I have lived with pain for such a long time.
- Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease - How does this condition affect you? Now this illness is very easy for me to accept that it could kill me. When I cannot breathe or catch my breath and have to carry an oxygen tank around everywhere I go, it hits me that I could eventually just not be able to catch my breath one day. I smoked for over 20 years and quit back in 1991. Yet I have always felt some day I would be facing this issue.
Mikesmom's Story
Several years ago, about 8 or 9, I contracted E.B.V (Epstein Barr Virus) also know as Mononucleous. After several months of being totally drain of all my energy, I began to regain my strength back. I developed high blood pressure and then Type 2 Diabetes. I tried watching my diet but eventually I was put on oral medication. My cholesterol became too high. As the years went by I had developed osteoarthritis and asthma. My blood glucose got worse. And in 2006 I was hospitalized 6 times because of my pancreatis. I was put on 3 different types of insulin, high blood pressure, allergy and asthma meds. I had to have injections in my knees because there is little to no cartiledge left. I also had to have each of my thumb joints rebuilt. I have sleep apnea and use a CPAP machine every night. This year I came down with a very bad case of bronchitis, which I always get every winter. In the process I have now developed COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease)and was put on oxygen for a few months. Last month, August 12,08 to be exact my pancreas attacked me so severely that I was put in CCU in critical condition. My tricylcerides were over 10,000. I spent a week in CCU not being allowed to eat or drink. My condition has improved and I am so afraid that I won't be able to stay on tract with my diet and I will end up back in the hospital but not be so fortunate as to recover. I cannot eat anything fried or fatty or with sugar or high carbohydrates. As soon as I do my blood glucose shoots up. I really want to maintain because I feel better, more energy, not depressed. I just don't think I can do it alone. I am Christain and I try to put it in the Lord's hands, but I have to take responsibility too. How do you all do it.
