Breast implants linked with suicide in study

www.reuters.com/article/newsOne/idUSN0836919020070…

“The increased risk of suicide was not apparent until 10 years after implantation,”

The only reason I wanted the BA surgery was because I’m tired of feeling like a boy. I call it deformity. Even though I can hide it with padded bra and big lose clothes, it’s oblivious that doesn’t cover up my low self esteem. That is why I believe this procedure will only help me feel better about my body and myself as a woman.

After I read this article, I think it’s very important for woman who plans or getting breast augmentation to commit and be responsible for their body and mental health. My plastic surgeon made sure I understand that I can call him at anytime for questions and concerns. Even though my experience of the surgery was rough, but because of the support I got from my doctor and especially my Husband, I quickly recovered back to normal again. I never have any thoughts of suicide, but I know if patients stay in touch with their plastic surgeon or have a good support team will definitely help avoid any suicidal thoughts. Rough Recovery

I took everything I can find to help with my recovery. Accolate and Vicodin are prescribed by my doctor, but I ask if I can take Arnica and vitamin E. Arnica is a natural homeopathic medicine that’s available at local pharmacy. It helps with swelling, bruising and reducing pain.

I don’t know how many bottles of Vicodin I had during my recovery. Maybe I just have extreme low pain tolerance. My friend who also had the breast augmentation only took some Tylenols on her first 3 days of her recovery. Needless to say, I was embarrass.

Since I had the Transumbilical procedure, the passages are suppose to sealed up. Instead of healing up normal, my passages formed pockets of drainage. I had to pressed and rolled the fluid out of my belly button incision. Not fun at all.

I learned from my research that people who have pacemaker, hip joints, or any man-made medical devices (such as implants), are advised to take antibiotics when going in for dental work. During my recovery, I had a gum lift surgery. I made sure my periodontist know that I’m was still recovering from the BA surgery… but I still got an infection.

If only I told my plastic surgeon about this gum lift surgery too, I might still have my “girls”. My plastic surgeon told me mouth is one of the dirtiest parts of the body and all the open cuts from gum surgery only make it easy for the bacteria to go into the bloodstream. Result = infection in the implant pockets.

So my infection leads to capsular contracture. I scheduled for the removal of the capsular contracture with a possible Capsuletomy (capsule removal). Now I’m my normal size and feeling like a boy again.

One word of advice - Make sure you let your plastic surgeon know every medical and dental procedures you will be having after the breast augmentation!

Oct 12, 2006 surgery day

I scheduled to have breast augmentation surgery done last year september. My husband and I am very comfortable with plastic surgeon. He’s very patient with our questions. The surgery went smoothly and I woke up feeling sore.
