My new best friend

So I decided to get out yesterday and run some errands. Since my back/hip/leg pain started in May, I don't get out very often, but you can only do so much online and sometimes Wal-Mart just screams my name.

Bad bad bad decision.

I was barely gone 3 hours. I thought the ibuprofen would hold out but no such luck.

Thank goodness I have my new best friend. It's a TENS unit but I call it my 'lectricity box. I just slap on the electrodes, plug it in, crank it up, and …. whew! I've been using it on and off all day and have no idea how I would have managed without it.

I've read how it supposedly works and I don't really care. I just know that it helps. I used to look forward to the brief sessions in physical therapy and finally I got to have my own little portable unit. Now I can get relief any time I need it.

I'm praying that insurance will cover it. They don't pay for my prescriptions, but PT says this is different. So far they've agreed to a month rental on a trial basis, and then they'll evaluate again. If I have to pay for it myself, I will. It's so worth it!

Keeping my fingers crossed (not too tight though, best not to do anything that might cause more pain).

What next?

I don't know where to go next with my treatment.  I was on Enbrel, and it didn't seem to do enough.  So now I'm on Rituximab, but it wears off to soon.  The first round seemed to stop working by five months.  Now I'm just at the 4 1/2 month mark of the second round and I'm feeling pain again.

Last month, my Doc increased my Methotrexate from 15mg to 20mg in hopes that it would stave off the pain that I was getting on weekends.  But instead I find that I'm feeling exhausted and fuzzy, and I think the MTX is to blame.  I have an appointment on Friday, and hope that I can get some ideas on a better path to take.
